| 1. Prepare students to independently conduct original research in environmental engineering and related topics |
| 2. Prepare students to create knowledge and provide innovative approaches to solve problems in environmental engineering and related topics. |
| 3. Prepare students to undertake a leadership role in their professional career, including an awareness of the importance of diversity, interdisciplinary perspective, and professional ethics. |
| 4. Give students a background in a different discipline, so that they can be incorporated into interdisciplinary research teams. |
| 5. Prepare the students to deliver public presentations, write technical papers, and interact in professional settings as an integral component of an academic, public service, or private sector career. |
| 6. Prepare the students with expertise in environmental engineering issues specific to Arizona and awareness of the unique challenges posed by trans-border problems, particularly in the areas of water quality, water reuse, and hazardous waste treatment. |
